Coach Safet Sušić is my favorite figure and of course we will cheer for Bosnia and Herzegovina, Drago Kalabić, SNSD representative in the House of Representatives of the Parliament of Bosnia and Herzegovina, told the BiH news agency Patria (NAP). Kalabić says he is also eagerly awaiting the first matches of the BiH national team.
- This is a planetary event and many citizens will follow the World Cup. We should not underestimate all of this in any way. My sympathies are with Safet Sušić. We will certainly see what political consequences it will have, if any, but we should enjoy football and cheering – says Kalabić.
Many world media outlets are writing that the success of the football team and qualification for the world gathering has united the country, which has long been divided on many issues.
Kalabić, as a representative of the ruling party from the smaller entity, says there is no doubt that he will follow and cheer for BiH, but points out that he is a bit annoyed by the claims that the footballers will "solve all problems". There have been statements from politicians in Banja Luka before that they do not cheer for BiH, but for other countries. However, Kalabić clearly states whose side his sympathies are on.
- We should not expect them, the footballers, it is neither fair nor does any country do that, to solve all the problems we have. We should not make such connotations. We wish them success on the sports front, and we will see what consequences it will have. We would all like it to produce a lot of good, but even an eventual failure at the World Cup does not mean it will bring us failure. It is a sporting event and we should enjoy it and cheer – Kalabić emphasizes for Patria.
