(Patria) - The title of today's topic at the regular session of ANI "Krug 99" – How to stop fools and idiots? – is intentionally provocative.
"Not to offend, but to break one of the most dangerous illusions of modern politics: the illusion that all destructive political moves are the result of deep strategies, hidden plans, or sophisticated interests. Italian economist and philosopher of society Carlo M. Cipolla warned us long ago that this is not entirely true. On the contrary – a large part of the damage in society is produced by actors who act irrationally. His essay inspired the title of today's topic," said the president of "Krug 99" Adil Kulenović ahead of the session.
Read the introductory address to today's topic by Professor Enver Halilović below.
- Stupid people are a group of human beings, "incomparably more powerful than the mafia, the industrial-military complex, and the Comintern." They are not organized, they do not belong to any order, they have no leader, no president, no statute, they have no ideology, they are neither a secular nor a religious ideological group, they are not organized at any level, local, national, regional, continental, planetary, but "they act in such a way that each (of its) members, through their actions, significantly contributes to the effectiveness of all other members".
They act exclusively within active social and institutional forms of organization. Stupid people are "one of the most powerful and darkest forces preventing the growth of prosperity and happiness of the human race".
There are five fundamental laws of stupidity. The first fundamental law of stupidity is imperative. It states: let's pay attention and assess the stupid people around us. People do not pay attention to stupid people because they underestimate their power.
The second fundamental law of stupidity states: "The probability that a person is stupid is independent of any other characteristic of that person". Stupidity is a natural fact; nature "keeps constant" certain natural phenomena, including stupidity. As for the frequency of stupidity, the percentage of stupid people is the same in large as in small groups, among the educated and uneducated, the rich and the poor, men and women, etc. There are stupid people even among Nobel laureates. In short, "some people are born stupid due to the inscrutable and irrevocable will of divine providence".
The third fundamental law of stupidity is the only golden law of stupidity. It states: "A stupid person is one who causes harm to another person or group of people, while for themselves, not only do they not gain any advantage, but they can even suffer a loss". Based on this law, all people are divided into four groups: hopeless cases, intelligent people, thieves, and idiots. Hopeless people or a hopeless group of people produce a loss for themselves and a gain for others; intelligent people or an intelligent group of people produce gains for both themselves and others; a thief gains by causing loss to another; a stupid person or group produces harm to both themselves and others. Therefore, people are not classified into special categories by any characteristics, but by their actions. Characteristics are contained and expressed in actions.
All people are self-aware of what they are, only stupid people are not aware that they are stupid.
Only a stupid person lacks self-consciousness, which "strongly contributes to the strengthening, frequency, and effectiveness of their destructive actions".
A paraphrased fourth law of stupidity states: People who are not stupid always underestimate the harmful potential of stupid people, they deal with and associate with stupid people.
This law of human stupidity does not concern stupid people, but those who are not stupid, but whose behavior allows stupid people to gain social power and influence. They make three types of mistakes: a) they underestimate the harmful potential of stupid people; b) they deal with stupid people; c) they associate with stupid people.
The fifth fundamental law of human stupidity is: "A stupid person is the most dangerous type of person that exists. A stupid person is more dangerous than a thief". The danger of a stupid person stems from their unawareness of their stupidity. In each of the five "fundamental laws of stupidity", there is a criticism of both stupid people and those who are not; the former, the stupid, because they "prevent the growth of prosperity and happiness of the human race", and the latter, the not stupid, "because they underestimate the number of stupid individuals" around them, because they underestimate their harmful influence, because they "associate with stupid individuals".
Recommendations and answers to the question of how to stop fools and idiots:
1. Let's assess and pay attention to the stupid people around us;
2. Let's not look for stupid people in any one, but in all social groups, regardless of their education, culture, religion, class, race, gender, age, etc.;
3. Let's be careful: a stupid person is recognizable, primarily, by their actions;
4. Let's not underestimate the potential of stupid people: let's not deal with or associate with stupid people;
5. Let's beware of stupid people, they are everywhere, they are unaware of their stupidity.
