How Izet Nanić Broke the Wings of Mladić's 1st Krajina Corps

"Brezza 94" is the name of a military operation that the 1st Krajina Corps of the VRS attempted to carry out between September 4 and September 12, 1994, against the 5th Corps of the Army of BiH and specifically against the 505th Bužim Brigade, which was the spearhead of the 5th Corps.

The operation was personally led by VRS General Ratko Mladić.

Statements from captured military documents of VRS General Ratko Mladić speak of breaking through the lines of the 5th Corps and the collapse of the 505th Bužim Knights Brigade.

The main attacks of the VRS followed in the early morning hours of September 4, 1994, in the Sip-Radoč direction.

The 5th Corps of the Army of RBiH reinforced its defense in the Sip-Radoč direction, followed by a fierce attack by the VRS with all available means on the front lines of defense of the 505th Bužim Brigade; however, the 505th Bužim Brigade did not yield despite the fierce attacks by the VRS.

The commander of the 505th Bužim Brigade, Izet Nanić, decided to launch a counter-attack on September 6 with a surprise attack tactic.

This attack was carried out by the forces of the 505th Bužim Brigade secretly passing through the lines of the 1st Krajina Corps of the VRS and successfully carrying out a counter-attack.

The VRS operation Brezza 94 was halted, the 5th Corps captured one T-55 tank and destroyed another. The 5th Corps also captured large quantities of artillery, mortars, military equipment, and ammunition; Ratko Mladić's jeep was also captured, in which military documents of the "Brezza 94" operation were found.

VRS General Ratko Mladić personally participated in this operation, where he was wounded by members of the 505th Bužim Brigade.
