When Small Hands Unite: Otes Residents Cleaned the Streets

(Patria) - Sarajevo Municipality of Ilidža was hit by a flood, and yesterday the situation was worst in Otes, where municipal and cantonal civil protection services evacuated residents of the Barska settlement by fire trucks.

Citizens are being moved from flooded houses to safe facilities, and the service for housing endangered population has been engaged.

Today, when the water receded, the citizens of this settlement who were accommodated in buildings, out of solidarity and all as one, cleaned the streets around the buildings, so it is difficult to notice that the floodwaters were carrying everything in their path just yesterday.

One of the residents told NAP that they could not wait for the authorities and that they returned their settlement to its original appearance.

"Unfortunately, our neighbors in houses had a harder time, because the damages are truly great," said one resident.

Otherwise, duty teams have been formed that will, together with the mayor Nermin Muzura, tour the area during the night and continue to monitor the situation.

It was agreed that the third phase of activities will be implemented tomorrow. Teams have been formed to clean roads from which the water has receded and to fully enable vehicle traffic. Also, teams have been formed to be deployed for pumping and drying water in the most affected facilities and locations.

Food, water, and hygiene packages will continue to be distributed to citizens in need through local communities and civil protection service units.

We appeal once again to citizens to contact the Civil Protection Service or local communities for all information and in case of need on the ground, so that the teams can respond to the needs and requests of the citizens.

The Municipality of Ilidža thanks the Government of Sarajevo Canton, the Cantonal Civil Protection, the Federal Civil Protection Administration, firefighters, police, all units of the Civil Protection Services of the Municipality of Ilidža, and the citizens who participated according to their capabilities in all activities that were carried out in the past few days to prevent further damage in the area of the Municipality of Ilidža.
