According to reports from Bild and Der Spiegel, German Chancellor Angela Merkel fainted last night in a restaurant in Bayreuth, where she was attending the opening of the prestigious Wagner Festival, reports the news agency Patria.

However, shortly after the publication of that information, aides to the German Chancellor clarified what actually happened.

-It was first reported that Merkel had collapsed, but a spokesman denied this. Only the chair was damaged, Focus reported.

According to unofficial information, also carried by the AFP agency, the chair Merkel tried to sit on fell apart. The Chancellor fell to the floor and ended up under the table, but quickly got up.

As this happened during the first intermission of the opera "Tristan and Isolde," Merkel continued watching the opera, and later addressed journalists, saying she really liked the opera and not mentioning the incident she experienced. Before the start of the opera, Merkel was photographed with her husband on the red carpet.
