Cabinet claims: Nikolić stopped British resolution

The cabinet of Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić announced that Nikolić, through his diplomatic activity, stopped the British resolution before the UN Security Council, reports the news agency Patria.

Nikolić's cabinet rejects criticism from the opposition DS regarding his letter to British Queen Elizabeth II.

In a response from the media coordinator in the cabinet of the Serbian President, Vuk Fatić, to the statement by the international secretary of the DS, Vladimir Todorić, it is stated that Nikolić sent letters on July 2 to all heads of state of the UN Security Council members, including Queen Elizabeth II, wishing to inform them why it would not be good for the UN Security Council to adopt a resolution on Srebrenica, proposed by Great Britain.

Fatić stated that it is untrue that Nikolić asked Queen Elizabeth II for Great Britain to withdraw the proposed resolution, but rather that he asked her to "use her authority and point out to the government (of Great Britain) the complexity and difficulty of the issue" regarding Srebrenica.

-Therefore, if nothing else, (the British Queen) at least has the right to express her opinion. Even if it is procedural, it is still not insignificant. No one, especially not President Nikolić, asked her to interfere in the work of her government, nor anything similar, the statement said.

The representative of the cabinet of the Serbian President also stated that Queen Elizabeth II, in the description of her powers, also includes sessions of the so-called "Privy Council", where she approves regulations and other by-laws of the Government of the United Kingdom.
