Southern Longitudinal: Roundabout with five entrances and a diameter of 38 meters to be built

Next week, site preparations will begin for the construction and reconstruction of the Second Section of the Southern Longitudinal from Hamdija Čemerlić Street to the intersection of Azize Šaćirbegović and Zvornička Streets, and the construction of three roundabouts is planned to relieve traffic, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

The consortium of domestic companies Euro-Asfalt and ŽGP will carry out the works, for which a contract was signed today with the Directorate for Roads of Sarajevo Canton and representatives of the Sarajevo Canton Government. The construction of 900 meters is planned, and the project includes about 1,500 meters of new sections of this road, which will complete the segment passing through the territory of the Municipality of Novo Sarajevo.

The completion of the works is expected in one year, and this road will improve access to this part of the city.

The Directorate for Roads of Sarajevo Canton is the implementer of the project for the reconstruction and construction of roads in Sarajevo Canton, financed by the EBRD, so it will undertake a series of activities, from preparatory and execution to final ones related to technical acceptance. Funds of around seven million euros have been secured from a loan from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

The project plans the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Azize Šaćirbegović Street, Put mladih muslimana Street, and Zvornička Street, which is one of the busiest and most unusual intersections in the entire Sarajevo area. The roundabout will have a diameter of 38 meters, with underground passages for pedestrian traffic and five entrances/exits, and will be one of the most modern in BiH.
