Juncker: I am not in favor of the early entry of Balkan countries into the EU

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said in an interview with the American newspaper Politico that he is not in favor of the early entry of Western Balkan countries into the European Union, but that due to the stability of the region, these countries must have a European perspective, reports the Patria agency.

- I am not in favor of the early entry of the Western Balkans into the EU. But if you take away their European perspective, we will again experience what we experienced in the nineties - Juncker told Politico.

Juncker added that "if the European Union falls apart, as US President Donald Trump claims, the Western Balkans will lose their European perspective."

- In that sense, the stability of the composition of the European Union is a prerequisite for the Balkans not to go to war again. I hope Trump understands that - Juncker said.

He also noted that he is encouraged because recently he has not noticed Trump calling on member states to leave the European Union.
