General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš" to soon become cantonal by introducing a pediatrics department

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - The Chairperson of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, Ana Babić, visited the Public Institution General Hospital "Prim.dr. Abdulah Nakaš" today, as this hospital plans to introduce a pediatrics department and thus meet the condition to become a cantonal hospital.

The director of this healthcare institution, Zlatko Kravić, emphasized that thanks to the Assembly and the Government of Sarajevo Canton, funds in the amount of three million and 760 thousand KM have been allocated so far, with which a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and a CT scanner were purchased, and the procurement of a dual-head gamma camera is planned, which will make it the first healthcare institution in the country capable of performing scintigraphy with the currently most advanced technology.

"We have the courage, will, and knowledge for this. We are doing all this with the aim of improving diagnostics for the citizens of Sarajevo Canton. The million that we will receive from the cantonal budget for this year will be spent on the procurement of furniture, with which we will finally replace all the beds that date back to the time when this hospital operated as part of the former JNA (Yugoslav People's Army)," explained Director Kravić.

Chairperson Babić was also informed that another operating room has been opened in the past period and that the complete secondary healthcare at the level of Sarajevo Canton has been taken over, and most importantly, the trust of the citizens in this institution has been restored.

"So far, urological and surgical lasers have been purchased, new methodologies have been introduced, for which it was also necessary to further educate staff," added Director Kravić.

According to him, there are also certain problems they encounter in their work, which mainly concern financing, and he emphasized the exceptional importance of continuous support from Sarajevo Canton.

"The report of this institution was adopted at the last session of the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, and I wanted to use this visit to get further information about their work and future plans, because it is in our interest for this hospital to be a reference institution in order to provide the highest quality healthcare service to all of us," stated Chairperson Babić on this occasion.
