Jović: Constituent Peoples Lead to the Dissolution of BiH

SARAJevo, (Patria) - Dejan Jović, a professor at the Faculty of Political Science in Zagreb, commented on the issue of constituent peoples in Bosnia and Herzegovina and all the problems arising from it. According to him, the established opinion is that there are no citizens in BiH, but only constituent peoples.

"You are mistaken if you think there are no citizens in Bosnia and Herzegovina. There are none because the Constitution does not allow for them, but only refers to them, directing them to be Serbs, Croats, Bosniaks," Jović said.

As he stated, if this continues, the dissolution of BiH is risked.

"But, if you are satisfied, or anyone else, with such a current state, then continue with these constituent peoples and risk the dissolution of BiH in the end. I think, I am not satisfied, and I think most citizens of BiH are not satisfied with the situation where Croats are only HDZ BiH, and then this HDZ BiH and HDZ Croatia blame everyone else for the situation of Croats in BiH, except themselves, and they have been in power non-stop," Jović believes.

He states that HDZ blames everyone else for this situation, except themselves.

"Now Bosniaks, the Constitution, Dayton, Komšić... everyone else is to blame. Where is the self-reflection and self-criticism? Therefore, I think we need to be very careful, leaning towards the fact that the system of constituent peoples in the Yugoslav nations did not prove to be good, that it led to the tragic dissolution of Yugoslavia," says Professor Jović.

Bosniak arguments, in his opinion, also stem from referring to the interpretation of constituent peoples in the SFRY because they were declared constituent because they were not sovereign in any other country.

"We are talking about two peoples in Bosnia who have other countries where they are sovereign, Croatia and Serbia.

If you continue to use the idea of constituent peoples in the way it is used in Yugoslavia, and this is the intention of both the Dayton Agreement and the system you currently have in BiH, you can openly ask why one people should be sovereign in two countries, and a third people in a third of their country, BiH," Jović concluded.
