No Public Call Yet for Youth Housing Subsidies in Sarajevo Canton, Allocated 500,000 KM Insufficient for All Interested

(Patria) - The public call for subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people in Sarajevo Canton has not yet been announced, and according to the current Budget for 2023, 500,000 KM is planned. That amount is insufficient for all interested parties. In previous years, the Government of Sarajevo Canton allocated multi-million amounts for subsidies amounting to 10,000 KM for purchased property. Given the soaring property prices and inflation, the amount should be even higher.

However, the relevant ministry could not comment on when the public call will be published.

“The Ministry of Communal Economy, Infrastructure, Spatial Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of Sarajevo Canton (hereinafter: the Ministry) points out that in the Budget of Sarajevo Canton for 2023, under the Ministry's position number: 61520 YAU 028 Capital transfers to individuals - Subsidizing young people in resolving housing issues, 500,000.00 KM is planned.

In 2021, according to the Decision of the Government of Sarajevo Canton number: 02-04-47872-11/21 dated December 30, 2021, funds in the amount of 10,000.00 KM each were allocated for subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people for 865 candidates, totaling 8,650,000.00 KM, and in 2022, according to the Decision of the Government of Sarajevo Canton number: 02-04-45291-2/22 dated November 3, 2022, funds in the amount of 10,000.00 KM each were allocated for subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people for 511 candidates, totaling 5,110,000.00 KM.

Bearing in mind the aforementioned data, this Ministry is of the opinion that before adopting the Decision on subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people for 2023, additional funds must be secured in the Budget of Sarajevo Canton under position 61520 YAU 028 Capital transfers to individuals - Subsidizing young people in resolving housing issues. Namely, depending on the amount of funds secured in the Budget of Sarajevo Canton, it is possible to establish a normative framework through the Decision on subsidizing the resolution of the housing issue for young people, after which a public call will be announced,” states the response of the Ministry to cantonal representatives who raised a representative question on this topic.

In previous years, public calls were published either in August or November.
