Jezero: The most famous BiH maternity hospital renovated four years ago

The Sarajevo maternity hospital at Jezero, which was destroyed by devastating shells during the Serb aggression on Bosnia and Herzegovina in May 1992, was renovated again on this day in 2010, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

The Zehra Muidović maternity hospital, now named Jezero maternity hospital, was shelled on the night of May 26, 1992. The aggressors tried to capture the hill where the hospital was located, in order to get closer to the city center. Members of the Army of RBiH, Koševsko Detachment, defended this hill with rifles and a few bombs, while the aggressor had far superior weapons and military equipment, writes NAP.

Five babies were killed in the fighting, 20 members of the Army of RBiH were wounded, five of whom died due to severe injuries.

Four years ago, a new Gynecology and Obstetrics Clinic was opened at the site of the old maternity hospital, writes NAP.
