FUCZ Units on Standby: Important Instructions for Citizens in Case of Floods!

The Federal Administration of Civil Protection is in constant communication and coordination with the Cantonal Civil Protection Administrations and local self-government units in order to take all necessary preventive measures and provide a timely response in case of river flooding in high-risk areas.

Federal specialized protection and rescue units for water and underwater rescue and the high-capacity water pumping unit of the FUCZ have been put on standby.

Citizens in areas at risk of flooding are urged to be cautious and take the necessary safety measures.

Instructions to follow in case of floods:

- Move valuables to higher places or rooms on upper floors
- Prepare drinking water and do not drink tap water as it may be contaminated
- Be prepared for possible evacuation with an emergency bag
- Monitor public information media and follow the instructions of the competent services and act accordingly. In case of evacuation, immediately respond to the call
- If you are unable to leave the building due to flooding, try to climb to higher floors, if necessary to the roof, and wait for help
- Turn off the main sources of electricity, gas and water
- If you are outdoors, move away from the flood-affected area
- Avoid walking through floodwaters if the water level exceeds your knees
- Do not drive through water in a car or any other vehicle
- If you are in a vehicle and cannot reach a safe position, immediately leave the vehicle and climb to a higher place
- Help those in need, especially vulnerable persons, the sick, children and persons with disabilities
- After the water recedes, do not use fresh food, water or medicines that may have come into contact with contaminated water.
- Do not use water from water pipes until the competent services confirm it is safe for use.
