An eleven-year-old boy killed his eight-year-old neighbor in the US state of Tennessee because she refused to show him puppies, US media reported today, as carried by the Patria news agency.
US police confirmed that the boy shot the girl, Latasha Dyer, on Saturday with a pistol that his father legally owned, after the young neighbor refused to show him two puppies.
The eleven-year-old boy has been charged with first-degree murder as a juvenile, the British BBC reported.
The killing occurred in a small town near Knoxville, Tennessee, and the local community is struggling to recover from the "shocking event."
The judge ordered the young American to be held in a juvenile detention center until a scheduled hearing on October 28, when the boy is due to appear in court.
The US non-profit organization Gun Violence Archive, which collects data on shootings, reported that this year 559 children aged 11 and younger have been killed or injured in gun violence in the US.
