One Gathering in Paris: In Honour of Andrée Michel

PARIS, (Patria) - On Thursday, March 1st, a Seminar will be held in Paris, initiated with the idea of contributing to the preparation for the "Retrospective of the Life's Work of Andrée Michel", which will be held on March 8th, as part of Women's Day. It is interesting that this seminar is being held on the BiH Independence Day, for which Andre Michel wrote the most beautiful and devoted pages.

Andre Michel, a sociologist, honorary director at CNRS (National Centre for Scientific Research), is one of the first to research Algerian immigration in France, a feminist, and an exceptional fighter for women's rights. Friends of Andre Michel, pacifists, and human rights activists will speak at this seminar. Among them will be Rétya, former lawyer at the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda, organizer of the "Sponsorship for the Republic of Congo" campaign, directed against war crimes in this Central African country. Evelyne Accad, professor at the University of Chicago and the Lebanese University in Beirut, will also speak. Cheryl Toman, professor of Francophone literature and head of the Department of Modern Literature at Western Reserve University in Cleveland, Ohio. Elena Meshkova, from the University of Education in Moscow, will present her experiences in scientific exchanges she conducted with Andre Michel. Hiyam Bseisso, a Palestinian writer living in France, author of an anthropological study on Palestinian refugees in Lebanon and author of other works, (the most famous of which is "Palestinian Backpacks" from 2018).

A special guest will be Sadžida Jerlagić, a Bosnian woman who translated Andre Michel's book "Truth and Justice for Bosnia and Herzegovina (Justice et Vérité pour la Bosnie-Herzégovine, Paris, 1996 - new edition 2001.). The translation was published in Sarajevo and generated exceptional interest from the BiH public. Sadžida Jerlagić will speak about Andrée Michel's engagement during and after the war in the former Yugoslavia.

It should be known that the exceptional human rights activist Andre Michel is 98 years old, with the devoted support of numerous admirers of her noble work and many lifelong friends.
