The Old Bridge Emerged for Those Who Love It

Citizens of Mostar will today mark the 21st anniversary of the destruction of the Old Bridge – a symbol of Herzegovina, writes the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

During the aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina from 1992 to 1995, many national values of Bosnia and Herzegovina were destroyed, including the Old Bridge in Mostar.

Members of the Croatian Defence Council (HVO) destroyed the Old Bridge on November 9, 1993. The day before, on November 8, the HVO began a campaign to destroy the Bridge by firing dozens of projectiles at its arch and towers, which ended with its destruction the following day.

The Old Bridge was reconstructed and completely renovated in 2004. In July 2005, the Bridge was included on the UNESCO list of protected cultural monuments. Construction lasted nine years.
