Amended Indictment Against Knezović: Death of Vedran Puljić Remains Unsolved!

Just a day before the match between FK Sarajevo and NK Široki Brijeg, which will be played on Saturday, September 16 at the Asim Ferhatović Hase stadium, Croatian media reported that the County Prosecutor's Office in Split has amended the indictment, and Oliver Knezović is no longer charged with the murder of fan Vedran Puljić and the wounding of six other fans, Patria reports.

Puljić was killed on October 4, 2009, after riots broke out between fans of the two clubs. Knezović is now charged with attempted murder, but it is still unknown of whom, i.e., he is charged with causing general danger and firing without aiming at anyone in particular.

Knezović is accused of, on October 4, 2009, in front of the Pecara stadium, during fan clashes, snatching a pistol from police officer Dragan Vujević and firing ten bullets in the direction of Sarajevo fans without thinking about the consequences. The change in the indictment came after expert examinations and witness statements. Experts agreed that it is impossible to determine from which weapon the fans were shot at, resulting in the death of Vedran Puljić.

Expert Vojin Maštruko stated in his findings that the shot that hit Puljić in the head most likely was not fired from the position where the accused was standing, but from the parking lot of a gas station. He also stated that he could not verify whether the bullet that killed Puljić was fired from the pistol confiscated from one of the police officers.

This decision by the County Court is both unexpected and, unfortunately, shows that no one will be held accountable for the death of Vedran Puljić.
