(Patria) - SDA President Bakir Izetbegović stated to the media on the eve of the Srebrenica genocide commemoration that a strong state should be built on the memory of the Srebrenica genocide victims, to ensure that nothing similar happens again.
“It is difficult to conduct politics in BiH, it is difficult for people who love this country. It is especially difficult for the people of Srebrenica who are under the rule of those who deny the genocide and who committed the genocide. We are living with those who failed to finish what they started with rifles and tanks in the war, and they are trying today. It is difficult, but it is worth enduring,” Izetbegović said.
“With the memory of the people who perished here, we should build a strong state, to ensure that things like those from 29 years ago never happen to anyone in BiH again,” the SDA leader added in his statement to the media.
He also said that the UN Resolution on the commemoration of the Srebrenica genocide was welcome, but that more needs to be done.
“They don't want to understand because they don't want to face the truth. The Resolution is welcome because it struck a blow against a plan that culminated in Belgrade with the All-Serbian Assembly. The Resolution shattered that, but it is not enough. Based on the Resolution, something must be done for the people in Srebrenica who suffer fear and humiliation. If it remains a dead letter on paper, none of that will happen.”
