Izetbegović met with UN Secretary-General Guterres

NEW YORK, (Patria) - Chairman of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Bakir Izetbegović met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres in New York.

During the meeting, held ahead of the 73rd session of the UN General Assembly, Chairman Izetbegović informed Guterres about the current political situation in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the progress our country has made on its path towards Euro-Atlantic integration. He emphasized that BiH expects to receive candidate status for membership in the European Union, and the activation of the MAP on the path towards NATO.

 Izetbegović informed Guterres about the level of reforms implemented, and about the progress of the BiH economy.

 The discussion covered relations in the region and their reflections on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

The UN Secretary-General congratulated the Chairman of the BiH Presidency on the progress our country has made on its path towards the EU and praised the efforts being made in the reform processes.

 The cooperation between Bosnia and Herzegovina and the United Nations was mutually assessed as very good. The interlocutors highlighted the particular importance of the project "Dialogue for the Future – Promoting Coexistence and Diversity in Bosnia and Herzegovina", which is expected to expand to the countries of the region in its second phase.

Chairman Izetbegović underscored Bosnia and Herzegovina's commitment to the implementation of the UN's Sustainable Development Programme "Agenda 2030".

 The delegation of Bosnia and Herzegovina included Ivica Dronjić, BiH Ambassador to the UN, and Dijana Čekić, advisor to the member of the BiH Presidency from RS Mladen Ivanić, it was announced from the BiH Presidency.
