Izetbegović on the reconstruction of "Željava": 40,000 Krajina residents to whom Bakir promised jobs are still unemployed!

Bakir Izetbegović, candidate for the Bosniak member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina and Deputy President of the SDA, has been promising 100,000 new jobs throughout his election campaign. He has not explained how he will achieve this, although economic analysts agree that it is an impossible mission under the current circumstances, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

His statement from 2011, when he promised 40,000 jobs in Bihać as part of the project to reconstruct the military airport "Željava" near Bihać, as reported by the media at the time, proves that his words remain empty promises. Since then, i.e., April 13, 2011, the project to reconstruct "Željava" has never been mentioned again, and the 40,000 people who believed Bakir's words at the time are still registered with the employment bureau.

At that time, Croatian President Ivo Josipović and BiH Presidency member Bakir Izetbegović discussed joint cross-border cooperation projects in Bihać that could contribute to overall economic stabilization in the region.

The presidents discussed putting the military airport "Željava" near Bihać into operation as a cargo airport.

Izetbegović said after the meeting that more than 40,000 people could find jobs from this project and that it was an investment of several billion euros.

- This is a project that could generate development in this part of BiH and Croatia - Izetbegović said at the time.

Josipović was clear and specified that the initial idea for the "Željava" airport originated from the Una-Sana Canton.

However, three and a half years have passed since then, and the mega-project and job creation have remained an unfulfilled dream for all citizens of BiH, especially those from Krajina.

Before its destruction, the "Željava" airport had five runways and four tunnels, eight meters high, 30 meters wide, and 3.5 kilometers long. It is difficult to count all the facilities this complex had, which of course could not be entered easily.

The fact that the base was elite is illustrated by the data that service there was considered a special honor and only the best were assigned to this airport. Today, it is just ruins and remnants of what many consider the most powerful military base in Europe.
