Izetbegović: We will start more seriously considering blockades in the Federation of BiH

(Patria) - SDA leader Bakir Izetbegović said today that parties from the Federation of BiH are in favor of indirect election for the BiH Presidency member as stated in the April package, but they have a problem because parties from the other entity, Republika Srpska, refuse it.

Izetbegović pointed out that leaders from RS do not have a strong justification and concluded that there is still room for agreement.

"It is good that work was done today in some kind of plenum because representatives of parliamentary parties who need to vote for changes to the Election Law and the Constitution were present. Tomorrow morning, we will start more seriously considering blockades in the Federation of BiH. I believe this is a success and a pressure I exerted to put the negotiations on two legs. Unfortunately, the path of least resistance was followed, to only meet the demands of HDZ. It will not go that way, and now we are also proceeding with the FBiH," he said after meetings that have been ongoing for the third day in the presence of American and European officials.

Izetbegović says that in FBiH they would rather opt for indirect elections, as stated in the April package, but that there is a problem from RS.

"They refuse it without strong justification, and there is no strong reason for it, so I think there is room for us to agree," he emphasized, and then shared his opinion on direct election.

"Regarding direct election, it may be that every vote is worth equally, that asymmetric solutions are not created, that there is no ethnic prefix – it must be dropped. That is the position of the Venice Commission, of all of us," said Bakir Izetbegović.

When asked by reporters if the leader of HDZ BiH, Dragan Čović, would agree, Izetbegović replied: "He will have to.".

Izetbegović also commented on today's writing in the Russian newspaper Pravda, which, among other things, states that Russia's aid to the BiH entity of RS could also be reflected in the sending of military forces
