Izet ef. Čamdžić: The Battle of Badr is not over, it continues in each of us today

(Patria) - The blessed night of Laylatul-Badr begins tonight with the evening prayer, and will be marked with appropriate programs in mosques across Bosnia and Herzegovina and the diaspora.

Tomorrow is the Day of the Battle of Badr – the battle that changed the history of Islam, but also laid the foundations for the believers' struggle that continues to this day. It was a battle of the few, but chosen, against the many. There were 314 Muslims then, 1,300 idolaters. However, victory did not go to the numbers, but to sincerity, determination, and reliance on God.

"Even after 1400 years, that battle is still going on, it takes place within us every day," stated Izet-ef. Čamdžić, chief imam of the Islamic Community Council of Zavidovići, for the MINA Agency.

He explained that the Battle of Badr is not just a historical battle but represents a principle, a test of character, morality, and faith.

"Muslims did not have weapons then, they did not have a numerical advantage, they did not have super armor or a mighty cavalry, but they had something the enemy did not – they had conviction, they had heart, and they had reliance on Allah. Isn't that a message for us today? Numbers do not decide. Positions mean nothing. True strength lies in conviction and readiness to fight for what is right," said efendija Čamdžić.

However, as he emphasized, the Battle of Badr is not over, it continues in each of us today. But, as Čamdžić says, the enemy today is not armed with swords – it comes in the form of greed that blinds us to the poor, envy that consumes us, injustice to which we consent through silence.

"Whoever conquers themselves – has won their Badr. Because Satan does not tire, does not surrender, does not retreat. He is always there to deceive you, to blind you, to distance you from what is valuable. The fight does not stop and there is no moment of rest, because as soon as you give in, you fall," said efendija Čamdžić.

He stated that the Battle of Badr continues in the constant fight against corruption, hypocrisy, injustice, and disenfranchisement, it continues in not giving up. In every individual, in every family, in every society, there are battles that cannot be avoided.

"Will we succumb to the pressure of fear and weakness? Will we allow greed to overcome us, envy to suffocate our hearts? Will we remain silent in the face of injustice thinking it does not concern us? Badr teaches us that there is no excuse for passivity. Muslims did not wait for someone else to solve the problem. They participated. They stood on the side of truth, even though they were few. Because Allah does not look at numbers, He looks at hearts," emphasized efendija Čamdžić.

He also pointed out that there were two armies at Badr and that both were organized.

"Both were united in what they were doing. And therefore, if there is anything else to learn from Badr, it is that only a united society can win. Only a society where one knows what is valuable, what is good, and what is evil, can be strong. Division is weakness, discord is ruin," said Čamdžić.

In the end, he said that the message of Badr is not just to remember the past, but to recognize what we need to do today.

"The Prophet, peace be upon him, did not just pray at Badr. He first blocked the enemy's water sources, set up camp, organized the army, consulted experts, and assigned tasks. Only then did he raise his hands to the sky and cry out: 'My Lord, if you do not help us, then no one on earth will prostrate to You again!' And us? Have we done everything necessary before asking?" asked efendija Čamdžić.
