400,000 KM Allocated: Members of the Centar Municipality Civil Protection Staff Visited Landslides in Soukbunar

On Tuesday, September 27, the 6th regular session of the Municipal Civil Protection Staff of Centar Municipality was held, during which the Staff members visited the landslide in Urijan Dedina street in Soukbunar, where a very demanding remediation is underway, and the landslide in Pećina street near number 31, whose remediation has been completed. These landslide remediation projects were financed by Centar Municipality with approximately 400,000 KM, it was announced from Centar Municipality, reports the Patria News Agency.

 

The Institute for Construction of Sarajevo Canton was engaged for implementation and supervision. The main project was carried out by experts from the Institute of Geotechnics and Geology of the Faculty of Civil Engineering in Sarajevo, as well as the landslide monitoring project, which is carried out after remediation to assess the success of the executed works. The development of the main project was also financed by Centar Municipality with 17,850 KM. After the tender procedure for the contractor was completed, the construction company "TB Inženjering" from Breza was selected, and the works began in May this year.

Fuad Babić, a member of the Municipal Civil Protection Staff, coordinator and expert for landslides from the Institute for Construction of Sarajevo Canton, informed the Staff members about the remediation projects of these two landslides in Soukbunar.

- According to the main project of the Institute of Geotechnics and Geology, the causes of the landslides in this area are the geological composition of the soil with poor geomechanical properties, the steepness of the terrain, and groundwater. The remediation works on the landslide in Pećina street near number 31 have been successfully completed. According to the main project, it was necessary to install a new drainage system above the residential building at number 13, which is connected to the city's sewage network. A new reinforced concrete retaining wall, 18 meters long, was built below the aforementioned building, and a concrete gabion wall in four rows was installed to stabilize the road.

Regarding the remediation of the landslide in Urijan Dedina street, I can say that this is the most difficult landslide remediation project in the municipality of Centar to date. There is a water source at that location flowing from beneath the Trebević massif, so to stabilize the soil, we had to install dozens of piles, anchors, and reinforced concrete structures.

We built a new reinforced concrete retaining wall, 38 meters long, below which piles and anchors are installed, going down to a depth of 12 meters, so this wall is practically standing in the air on piles with a diameter of 600 and 300 millimeters. As this is a very demanding project, we expect the works to be completed by the end of this year, explained Fuad Babić.

In general, 148 landslides have been registered in the central Sarajevo municipality, and in addition to this number, 62 landslides have been remediated, for which Centar Municipality has invested more than 11.5 million marks since 2000. As part of these projects, large and very dangerous landslides have been remediated, such as the wider area of Soukbunar and Trebevićka street, Mrakuša, Kromolj, Nahorevo – Lasac, Nahorevska street, Dalmatinska, Podgaj-Tekija... Remediation of landslides and construction of new stairs have also been carried out in Kaptol, Pruščakova, and Veliki park, where, thanks to Centar Municipality, the citizens of Sarajevo have gained exceptionally beautiful and modernly arranged urban spaces.
