20,000 BAM Allocated for Transport of Lemurs and Meerkats to Pionirska Dolina

At the beginning of 2014, the Centar Municipality allocated 13,000 BAM for the transport of a lioness to Pionirska Dolina, and subsequently provided an additional 20,000 BAM for the transport of two new animal species and the construction of their enclosures, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.

As Esad Tajić, the manager of Pionirska Dolina, pointed out, the enclosures for the two new animal species, lemurs and meerkats, have been built and now they are waiting for the necessary permits to transport the animals to our country.

- We are currently having problems with the import permit, which is not yet ready. The export permit has been completed, but the system here does not function like in neighboring countries, which is why everything takes longer than a month. As soon as we finalize the import permit, we are ready for transport. We hope it will be ready in seven to eight days so we can go pick up the animals, which we will transport separately from Ljubljana and Zagreb. Due to new standards and regulations, we could not transport the animals in a single shipment, which is why the costs have increased slightly. The remaining funds allocated by the Centar Municipality were used for the construction of enclosures and the expansion of facilities for the new animal species - Tajić emphasized.

According to Tajić, the mayor of Centar Municipality, Dževad Bećirević, showed understanding for the only zoo in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

- This is an example of how others should treat the only zoo in our country. This space is used by all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and therefore all levels of government should help - Tajić stressed.
