Red alert issued due to heavy rainfall, citizens urged to be cautious

(Patria) - According to reports from the competent institutions of the Federation of BiH, the Federal Civil Protection Administration, and the Federal Hydrometeorological Institute, a red alert has been issued for the areas of Herzegovina, and central, southwestern, and southeastern Bosnia due to announced heavy rainfall.

The alert applies to the period from January 25, 2026, 6:00 AM to January 26, 2026, 3:00 AM. According to data from the Federal Civil Protection Administration, the expected amount of rainfall is mainly between 45 and 85 liters per square meter, with the highest amounts of rainfall (102 to 118 liters per square meter) expected in the areas of Ljubuški, Široki Brijeg, and Blidinje (lake).

The Federal Civil Protection Administration warns citizens to be prepared for the possible consequences of heavy rainfall.

- Be prepared to protect yourselves and your property. Flooding of property and transport networks, disruptions in electricity, water, and communication supplies are possible. Minor evacuation may be necessary. Severe driving conditions are expected due to reduced visibility and uncontrolled vehicle movement due to water – indicated the Federal Civil Protection Administration.

The Federal Hydrometeorological Institute states that on Sunday, in other parts of the Federation of BiH, 10 to 30 liters of rain per square meter are expected, with moderate wind from the south and southeast, occasionally with strong gusts.
On Monday, light rain is forecast, while snow is expected in the mountains, and in the second half of the day, the wind will change direction to north and northwest.

The Government of the Federation of BiH appeals to citizens, competent services, and institutions to follow official warnings, act in accordance with the recommendations of civil protection, and take all necessary measures to reduce possible damage and protect human lives.
