Election year, Konaković smells trouble: Government of Sarajevo Canton must find additional funds for youth subsidies, it can and must do better

(Patria) - President of the People and Justice Party Elmedin Konaković commented on social media about the process of awarding subsidies to young people for solving housing issues.

He said that the subsidy for young people when buying an apartment is a project that we in the Government of Sarajevo Canton, which I headed, initiated at the proposal of Minister Čedomir Lukić.

"The idea did not have a social background, so the criteria were not of a social nature; the idea was to send a message to young people that the authorities understand the current situation they are in and support them in one of the most important life projects, buying an apartment or a house.
That the project is good is shown by the number of applicants, which has increased year after year.
The Government of Sarajevo Canton should find a solution and pay this group of young people additional funds, at least approximately the amount they expected," stated Konaković.

He says that among the applicants he saw a large number of professional, capable and responsible young people who have bravely stepped into a new chapter of life, most of them have taken loans that they will repay to banks for years.

"That is why the authorities must show that they are now with them, not against them. Sarajevo suffers a lot due to the abolition of weighting and that is now a big problem, but stories like this must have a happy ending. If anyone has a better and more efficient proposal on how to help young people when buying an apartment, let them propose it. Until we switch to a better model, we should continue implementing the existing project. The Government of Sarajevo Canton can do better in this and some other processes, I know that. I do not measure this government with the governments led by this destructive opposition, that cannot be in the same sentence, but it can and must do better.

This government must continue to raise the bar in accordance with our standards, the standards of the Troika, which received the majority trust of the citizens of Sarajevo Canton to continue the initiated processes. Show now that care for young people is truly one of our priorities," stated Konaković.

We remind you, the Government of Sarajevo Canton promised subsidies of up to 12,000 KM, but 5.5 million KM was not enough for 1,142 applicants who qualified. The Government of Sarajevo Canton can pay them 4,800 KM, which is the lowest amount ever paid. This decision caused numerous reactions, and young people have already protested in front of the Government of Sarajevo Canton. Given that it is an election year, Konaković got involved in the cantonal story because this could backfire on the Troika. And on the list is also his associate from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
