(Patria) – The Socialists won the third elections in four years, but did not secure the majority needed to form a government.

The party of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez won 29 percent of the vote and will need the help of either the left-wing Podemos and regional parties or the centre-right to form a government.

For the first time since the end of military rule in the 1970s, the right-wing party Vox will enter parliament.  

Vox openly opposes multiculturalism, immigration and so-called 'radical feminism'.

The great support that Vox received in the elections is attributed to its stance that categorically opposes the secession of Catalonia.

The conservative Popular Party (PP), which led Spain until 2018 when it lost a vote of no confidence, suffered a fiasco in the elections, winning only 66 seats compared to 137 in the previous elections, writes the British newspaper The Guardian.

75.8 percent of Spanish citizens turned out for the elections, which is 9 percent more than in the 2016 elections.

In his victory speech, Prime Minister Sanchez stated that the party's biggest challenges are fighting inequality, improving coexistence and stopping corruption.
