Election of the Prime Minister of Sarajevo Canton: Jasmin Bučo, the "Sacrificial Lamb" of Zvizdić and Ćesir

 

Jasmin Bučo, initially the favorite of Denis Zvizdić for the mandate to form the new Government of Sarajevo Canton, became collateral damage in the political game that has been unfolding in recent days under the baton of Zvizdić and Huse Ćesir, president of the SDA Municipal Board Novi Grad, writes the news agency Patria.  

The young, promising, and educated Bučo entered the selection for the mandate at the session of the Personnel Commission of the SDA Canton Committee held seven days ago with six votes, while Elmedin Konaković, head of the SDA Club of Delegates in the Sarajevo Canton Assembly, received five votes.

However, as one of the members of the Personnel Commission told Patria, in the initial scenario alongside Bučo, a serious candidate for this position was Muharem Šabić, technical director of the failed company BH Airlines, while Konaković was not even considered.

Then came a phone call from Bakir Izetbegović, deputy president of the SDA, who, according to the scenario devised by Zvizdić and Ćesir, „warmly“ recommended that Konaković, not Šabić, be Bučo's competitor.

The plan entailed, and it did happen, that Bučo would withdraw from the further race under pressure, and that Šabić would be brought back into the ring.

Even after several hours of discussion, which ended late last night, the members of the Executive Board could not decide whom to choose - Konaković or Šabić. Therefore, a deadline was set until Wednesday for the two to complete their biographies, and for the appointment to be reconsidered.

Zvizdić and Ćesir count on being able to push through Šabić, who suits them in the position of cantonal prime minister as a compliant figure, especially for Zvizdić, who will be asked to leave his position as president of the SDA Canton Committee Sarajevo given that he will take over the function of state prime minister. In this way, he would still maintain control in the Canton through his prime minister.

In the next two days, fierce lobbying, blackmail, and pressure on the members of the Executive Board to give their vote to Šabić are expected.
