Refugees receive $1.8 billion in aid

Nineteen countries will provide $1.8 billion to UN humanitarian organizations as aid for migrants and refugees in camps near conflict zones in the Middle East, reports the news agency Patria.

The initiative to help migrants and refugees was announced by German Foreign Minister Frank Walter Steinmeier and UN High Commissioner for Refugees Antonio Guterres, reports Beta. Germany will first send aid to camps in Turkey, Lebanon, and Jordan.

Guterres said that UN humanitarian agencies have run out of money due to the increasing burden resulting from conflicts in the Middle East.

Among the countries that have pledged aid are the G7 industrial nations, European Union countries, as well as Gulf states, including Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
