Envoy Peach: We want a secure Western Balkans

SARAJEVO, (Patria) - Stuart Peach, the UK's special envoy for the Western Balkans, addressed the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina for the first time via video message during his visit to the country, which was published on the British Embassy's website.

Peach said that British Prime Minister Boris Johnson asked him to take on this role to support the UK's efforts across the region.

“The UK government wants a secure Western Balkans with strong, democratic institutions and a strong rule of law. Today I am in Sarajevo as part of my first visit as special envoy to BiH. It is great to be back here. I have worked in public service for a long time, in my last job I was a senior officer in NATO, and before that in important positions in the British Army,” said Peach.

However, he added that in his current position as special envoy, he will combine personal experience with the best of British diplomacy, security, and trade relations to support political solutions and promote Euro-Atlantic integration.

“During my visit to BiH, I am meeting with high-ranking politicians, law enforcement agencies, parliamentarians, and, very importantly, with young actors in civil society who are working to promote peace and reconciliation. I look forward to working closely with all partners, including the High Representative and our international allies, and supporting those who are committed to achieving progress in this country,” Peach conveyed.

Yesterday, Peach held a meeting with the members of the Presidency of BiH, as well as with the High Representative in BiH, Christian Schmidt.
