IZ helps Gračanica: Donated 100,000 BAM for those whose roofs were smashed by hail

The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina donated 100,000 BAM to help the endangered population of Gračanica, and the money is intended for those who, during the recent storm that hit this municipality, were left without a roof over their heads, the IC announced, as reported by the Bosnian news agency Patria (NAP).

A few days ago, Gračanica was hit by a severe storm accompanied by hail, after which roofs were destroyed on 1,629 houses in the settlements of Gornja Orahovica, Miričina and Rašljeva. According to estimates by the cantonal Civil Protection Administration, about 1.3 million pieces of roof tiles were destroyed, so more than one million BAM will be needed for repairs.

The money provided for the citizens of Gračanica by the Islamic Community of Bosnia and Herzegovina will be used to repair the roofs of those who are unable to cover the damage themselves.

This assistance will be implemented in cooperation with the Municipality of Gračanica, NAP reports.

Bahrija Umihanić, Prime Minister of Tuzla Canton, was more than satisfied with the donation from the Islamic Community, but pointed out that he is particularly pleased that the IC is providing assistance through the local community.

- No one except the local community, which cooperates with the congregations of the Islamic Community, has a better insight into which population needs help. This help came at the right time, especially because it arrived immediately after the disaster that befell us - said Umihanić, as reported by NAP.
