From the US Embassy to NAP: Assessments are clear - Dodik is taking provocative steps to ensure de facto secession for his RS

(Patria) - In the annual assessment of the US Intelligence Community on global threats, published by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, it is stated that the "Western Balkans will likely face an increased risk of localized interethnic violence during 2024."

It also states that the President of the RS, Milorad Dodik, is taking provocative steps to neutralize international oversight in Bosnia and Herzegovina and secure de facto secession for the Republika Srpska.

The Patria News Agency contacted the US Embassy in BiH regarding this matter, asking them to comment on these claims and whether they are aware of these possibilities. We also asked them how dangerous and realistic these allegations are, especially given the announcements that EUFOR might not be able to handle a potential conflict.

"The US Intelligence Community's Annual Threat Assessment is a public document prepared each year by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence, representing a joint review by the US Intelligence Community focused on the most direct and serious threats to the United States, primarily during the coming year. One of the categories of these threats is potential intra-state turmoil.

The annual threat assessment for the Balkans and Bosnia and Herzegovina was clear and direct: 'Bosnian Serb leader Milorad Dodik is taking provocative steps to neutralize international oversight in Bosnia and secure de facto secession for his Republika Srpska.

His actions could encourage leaders of the Bosniak (Bosnian Muslim) population to strengthen their own capacities to protect their interests and potentially lead to violent conflicts that could overwhelm peacekeeping forces,' states the response provided to us by the Public Affairs Office of the US Embassy.
