The Supreme Court overturned the verdict against former Prime Minister Ivo Sanader in the Fimi Media case. Sanader is to be released from Remetinec prison, where he is currently held, upon payment of bail of 12.4 million kuna. However, he will not be released today, reports the Patria News Agency.
The Supreme Court made this decision after three days of reviewing the appeals of the defendants and the USKOK (Bureau for Combating Corruption and Organized Crime) in the Fimi Media corruption case, in which Sanader was provisionally sentenced to nine years in prison and ordered to return illegally acquired funds amounting to 15.27 million kuna.
He can post bail in cash, real estate, or valuable movable property. The faster route to freedom is paying the bail in cash, as real estate and movable property require registration. The former Prime Minister and HDZ leader must post bail and promise the court not to flee before being released.
