Ivo Komšić: We should learn from Fra Luka how to love BiH

Fra Luka was a believer of such a kind that even when he was attacked, he did not hate anyone. He said that these attacks should not be taken seriously. Because, he believed that judgment is not with the people who judge, judgment is somewhere else, it is displaced. He said that people cannot judge his life – Mayor of Sarajevo Professor Ivo Komšić told the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

Fra Luka Markešić, an prominent Franciscan, professor at the Franciscan Theology in Sarajevo and president of HNV BiH, passed away in Sarajevo last Thursday at the age of 77.

Speaking about Fra Luka, Mayor Komšić said that BiH has lost a great support, who always advocated for the integrity of BiH, its prosperity, but also for love among all the peoples living in it. From Fra Luka, Komšić says, one could learn how to love BiH and how to love and respect all its citizens.

- He said that his faith commanded him to be socially and politically engaged. And his engagement was always on the side of good and against evil. Because, those who know faith, who interpret it, know that faith, or religious morality, commands us to be practically engaged against evil – says Komšić.

- Fra Luka's second paradigm was that if you are in BiH, in your only homeland, then you must always ask yourself what it is like, what it looks like... That is why Fra Luka did not only advocate for the integrity of BiH, but he advocated for the quality of its governance. He advocated for BiH to slowly move from a Dayton country towards a democratic and functional state with a European form – said Komšić, writes NAP.

A memorial service organized by the Croatian National Council and the Monastery of St. Ante was held on August 13 in the amphitheater of the FBiH Parliament, reports NAP.
