Ivanić: Nothing is possible without the consent of Serbs, Dayton is safe

Member of the Presidency of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mladen Ivanić said he does not believe in the dismantling of the Dayton Agreement and is convinced that the United States and Great Britain will not threaten the Republika Srpska regarding this issue, reports the Patria news agency.

“I do not believe that the United States and Great Britain will do anything on that front. Secondly, I think that without the consent of any Serb, such a thing is not possible. I have no intention of doing that; I intend for the Republika Srpska to be more stable and stronger at the end of my mandate than it was at the beginning,” Ivanić said today in Trebinje, BNTV reported.

In his opinion, the Dayton Agreement is more than safe in its current form, because there is no international consensus on this issue, especially since key countries do not agree with the idea of tampering with it.

He added that he is aware that there will always be less serious attempts to diminish the authority of the Republika Srpska. But as long as the citizens of the Republika Srpska and all politicians are united in the view that there will be no change, Ivanić claims that there will be none.

“There will be various demands and comments from analysts or Balkan experts who will say something about this, but there are no serious initiatives for changing the Constitution, especially since the content of the New European Initiative sets the Constitution aside.

People know that there are three concepts in Bosnia and Herzegovina: one is a centralised Bosnia and Herzegovina, if possible from Sarajevo; the second is a Serbian independent Republika Srpska, if possible; and the third is a third entity, if possible. And if you have three different concepts, who can provide a new Constitution? No one. So, the Dayton Agreement is completely safe, Ivanić concludes.
