The Chamber of Deputies of the Italian Parliament has adopted a law banning any public display of fascist and Nazi symbols, writes Patria Agency.
The adopted law provides for penalties ranging from six months to three years in prison for displaying fascist and Nazi flags and other symbols in the street, as well as for spreading fascist propaganda online.
The author and proponent of the law is Emanuele Fiano, a deputy from the ruling left-wing Democratic Party.
A few days ago, a Facebook page with around 45,000 members was shut down in Italy. This page spread hatred towards Muslims, Jews, and Black people, and also posted antisemitic speeches by Hitler's propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels.
The right-wing opposition, led by former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi's Forza Italia party, opposed this law.
The law was adopted following a large number of incidents that have occurred recently across Italy.
In one pastry shop in the south of the country, a Hitler cake was even made, while the neo-fascist party Forza Nuova announced a celebration of the 95th anniversary of the March on Rome by Mussolini's fascists.
