A snowstorm has hit the East Coast, New York, Boston, Philadelphia, and more than 7,000 flights have been cancelled and will not resume until Wednesday, American media report, according to the BH news agency Patria.
The expected snowfall varies from one to two meters, and more than 13 cm of snow has fallen in New York. Travel on Long Island has been banned, and subway travel has been stopped.
Most of the population stayed home, and schools were closed earlier. During the night, the snow intensified, and the wind reached speeds of 75 km/h.
Winter equipment is mandatory for city buses as well, Patria reports.
