(Patria) - The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada {IGK} has received a letter from the office of the Premier of the Canadian province of Alberta, Danielle Smith, which among other things states:
"The Government of the Canadian province of Alberta strongly condemns the unacceptable, senseless hatred and violence that incite genocide. The Government of Alberta will continuously honour and remember the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, including more than 8,000 killed Bosniak men and boys and thousands displaced from their homes.
The Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month Act became law in Alberta on March 26, 2021. The Act declares April of each year as Genocide Remembrance, Condemnation and Prevention Month, including the Srebrenica genocide, in order to recognize the impact of the crime of genocide, remember the victims, and promote a better understanding of the causes of genocide in Canada and around the world.
The Director of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, Dr. Emir Ramić, thanked Alberta Premier Danielle Smith.
"In a difficult time in which the world finds itself, when truth, justice, the culture of remembrance, international law and international institutions are attacked by many. In a time when special attention must be paid to the full protection of the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina and its state symbols, its territorial integrity, sovereignty, independence, statehood and international political and legal subjectivity, your letter gives hope for a better future for the truth about the Srebrenica genocide and justice for the victims of that greatest crime after the Holocaust in Europe. At the same time, your letter gives hope for a better future for the state of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and thus for Europe and the world.
Your letter gives us a saga about the fight against genocide deniers, falsifiers of judicial, historical and scientific facts about the Srebrenica genocide, and glorifiers of convicted war criminals," wrote Ramić in his response to the Alberta Premier.
Ramić thanked all members of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada who have long lobbied in Alberta and Canada for truth and justice. He especially thanked Dr. Ajdina Halilović from Calgary and Jasmina Čolić from Edmonton, members of the International Expert Team of the Institute for Research of Genocide Canada, who at the local level in Alberta showed activity in the fight for truth and justice.
The Institute for Research of Genocide Canada respects and empathizes with the pain of the victims of the Srebrenica genocide, not only through continuous work to ensure that perpetrators face truth and justice, but also by giving them hope for a better future through continuous promotion and lobbying for truth, justice and the culture of remembrance in Canada.
