Confession from Italy: The sixth day of quarantine with such high numbers is ending

The sixth day of quarantine with such high numbers is ending, numbers we truly could not have even dreamed of on February 21 when there were about 14 infected people.

Back when almost everyone denied this virus, when they laughed at everything happening in China and even the Italian Prime Minister said it was just the flu.

Well, that just the flu has killed 1,809 people, 368 more in the last 24 hours. According to today's official data, the total number of people infected with the coronavirus, including the deceased and those who have recovered, is 24,747. The saddest part is that this number is not final and that tomorrow we will face an even more alarming report.

Everything I am writing is meant to raise awareness among those who still laugh at the coronavirus and deny the seriousness of the situation. I worry for those living in less developed countries than Italy, I worry for my family members and friends. This virus, however it originated, has brought the entire world to its knees.

If that is not enough to make the careless ones take things seriously, then I do not know what is. Even here, there are plenty of unaware and unreasonable people; they go out, jog, walk, gather. The police warn them, fine them, issue tickets, because it is no joke. Doctors and medical staff in Italy are doing the “impossible”; they are on the front lines of defense against this virus, so the least we can do is stay home.

About a hundred kilometers from us, hospitals no longer have available beds; they are setting up tents around the facilities.

Great respect for the medical staff of Italy and all other countries, as well as the police, firefighters, and all those giving their last ounce of strength to see an end to this terrible virus.
