Fifth Swimming Marathon Held in Tuzla!

On Saturday, February 25, swimming marathons were organized in countries around the world, giving everyone, from the oldest to the youngest, the opportunity to participate in fundraising through the global “End Polio Now“ campaign. The “End Polio Now“ global campaign was launched in 1988 by Rotary International in cooperation with the World Health Organization, UNICEF, and “The Gates Foundation“.

The campaign is progressing towards the goal of reducing the number of polio cases worldwide to zero. There is no cure for polio, however, highly effective vaccines have been developed, which have made this disease increasingly rare today.

This disease has been absent from our region for a long time, with cases recorded only in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Nigeria last year. This serves as a reminder of the seriousness of this disease, as well as the importance of its prevention. As in previous years, Rotaract Club Tuzla ´99, together with Interact Club Tuzla ´99 and under the auspices of Rotary Club Tuzla, held a swimming marathon open to all attendees. More than 100 swimmers participated in this year's marathon, including individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. This event once again replicated the global Guinness World Record set in 2012 for the largest swimming event in the world, when this event was first held.

As part of this year's Swimarathon, all participants received certificates of participation from Rotary Club Grantham, the originator of this idea, as well as gift packages from our sponsors: “Bingo“, “RINGEIS“, “Neutrino“ d.o.o, and “Kameleon“. At the end of the marathon, special awards were also presented to the youngest participants. A portion of the funds raised will be directed towards a project for elementary school students from Primary School “Simin Han“ to help realize their idea for a school newspaper called “Šareni svijet“ (Colorful World).
