Rockets fired into Baghdad's Green Zone

IRAQ, (Patria) - An explosion occurred in Baghdad's "Green Zone" tonight after several rockets were fired at the location, world media report. The explosion shook this highly secured zone, which also houses the US embassy, as well as a number of other foreign embassies.

The headquarters of the Iraqi government is also located in this zone. The "Green Zone" is the colloquial name for the Baghdad International Zone.

According to Reuters, citing police sources, a rocket definitely exploded near the embassy.

Reporters also report that a base housing US troops 80 kilometers north of Baghdad was hit. Several people were injured in the explosions.

This explosion occurred after the killing of Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in Iraq, ordered by US President Donald Trump. Iran stated that it was a mistake.
