Ismet Gavrankapetanović appointed as the new General Director of KCUS

(Patria) - Professor Doctor Ismet Gavrankapetanović has been appointed as the new General Director of the University Clinical Center of Sarajevo (KCUS).

This was decided today by the KCUS Management Board, and the decision regarding the appointment will be sent to the Federal Minister of Health, Nediljko Rimac, for confirmation.

Prof. Dr. Ismet Gavrankapetanović was born in Sarajevo in 1962, where he graduated from the First Gymnasium as the student of the year and from the Faculty of Medicine in 1986.

Two years later, he defended his doctoral thesis. He speaks English, French, and Arabic fluently.

He is a visiting professor at renowned world universities and a member of numerous domestic and international medical associations.

Among other affiliations, he is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, the Royal College of Surgeons of London, the British Orthopaedic Association, and the European Association for Sports Traumatology.

He spent three decades at KCUS, where he was available to his fellow citizens during the hardest war days, as well as to soldiers on many battlefields in Bosnia and Herzegovina. He trained a new generation of excellent orthopedists.

He was the Head of the Clinic for Orthopedics and Traumatology at KCUS, and the Director of the Institute for Scientific Research and Development.

In 2004, he was elected Associate Professor at the Department of Surgery and War Surgery at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo, in 2007 as Head of Department, and in 2010 as Full Professor.

Since 2018, he has been an orthopedist at the General Hospital "Prim. Dr. Abdulah Nakaš", in 2020 he was appointed Acting Director of that healthcare institution, and a year later, Director.

He obtained his Master's degree in Management, specializing in Quality Management in Healthcare, from the Faculty of Economics in Sarajevo in 2020.

He is the author of a large number of professional and scientific papers published in scientific databases and domestic and foreign medical journals, textbooks, monographs, and guides.

He is a lecturer and participant in a large number of domestic and international congresses, symposia, and conferences.

Furthermore, he was the leader and participant in numerous domestic and international projects, and a mentor to master's and doctoral students at the Faculty of Medicine UNSA.

In addition to Gavrankapetanović, the candidates for the director of KCUS were also Dr. Sci. Med. Alen Pilav and Prof. Dr. Mevludin Mekić.
