(Patria) - The Commission for reviewing applications submitted to the public call for the award of the State Award for Sports for 2024 unanimously proposed that this year's award be given to Ismail (Nihad) Barlov, a young para-swimmer from Sarajevo.
Born on September 5, 2010, Ismail has become a symbol of sporting success and inspiration. He is a member of the swimming club "Spid" and a student at the Fifth Elementary School.
His sports career is marked by numerous medals, including a gold at the European Senior Championships in Madeira and a silver at the Paralympic Games in Paris 2024 in the 50-meter breaststroke event.
At just 13 years old, Ismail met the A standards for the Paralympic Games and the World Senior Championships, making him the youngest athlete from Bosnia and Herzegovina to achieve this feat. His results contribute to the promotion of para-swimming and motivate future generations to follow his example.
This award represents recognition not only for Ismail's sporting achievements but also for his contribution to the affirmation of sports for persons with disabilities in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
The State Award for Sports of Bosnia and Herzegovina is awarded to athletes who are citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina for exceptionally successful work in the field of sports, winning a medal at the Olympic Games, Paralympic Games, world and European championships in Olympic sports, athletes who hold world and European records in Olympic sports, the Mediterranean Games, and European and world club competitions.
The Commission for reviewing applications, which, in addition to two representatives of the Ministry of Civil Affairs, includes representatives of the Olympic Committee of BiH, the relevant ministries for sports of the Republika Srpska and the Federation of BiH, as well as the Brčko District, announced that the effort, perseverance, and outstanding results of Ismail Barlov have been recognized and rewarded with the award of this prestigious prize, which symbolizes excellence in sports and promotes the values of inclusion and equality.
The final decision on the award, based on the Commission's proposal, will be made by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
