Islamic Cultural Center in Umag not yet completed, 250,000 euros short

In March 2014, the foundation stone for the Islamic Cultural Center was laid in Umag, and today, 18 months later, it is built, but all work has been halted due to lack of funds, writes the BiH news agency Patria.

The chief imam of the Islamic Community Council of Umag, Elvedin ef. Posavljak, tells Patria that around 250,000 euros are needed to complete the work on the facility itself (both exterior and interior finishing).

In the area of Umag, according to estimates, ef. Posavljak states, there are about 600 Bosniaks originating from BiH, Serbia, Montenegro, as well as Muslims from Kosovo and Macedonia, who are mostly engaged in confectionery.

According to the conceptual design, the Islamic Cultural Center in Umag is located 400 meters from the sea and covers more than 500 square meters. The construction and previous work have been financed by the congregation members, the diaspora, and a portion of the funds was also provided by the Mešihat of the Islamic Community in Croatia.

In addition to a mosque, this center will also have accompanying facilities such as an imam's apartment, a meeting hall, classrooms for children, a library, a multi-purpose courtyard...
