Islamic Community in BiH: Price of Qurbani for 2025 set at 550 KM

(Patria) - The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina will this year offer believers who are unable to perform the Qurbani ritual personally within their households the opportunity to sacrifice a Qurbani at a single price of 550 KM.

The decision on the price of Qurbani was made by the Riyasat of the Islamic Community at its last session, following a detailed market analysis and consultations with relevant experts and potential cooperators.

– The price of Qurbani for the territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is 550 KM, while for the umbrella organizations of the Islamic Community in the diaspora, the price has been set at 285 euros. With this, the Islamic Community continues its long-standing continuity of a responsible approach to the implementation of Qurbani – stated Dr. Bilal Memišević, head of the Department for Qurbani of the Riyasat of the Islamic Community.

Through the "Qurbani 2025" campaign, the competent institutions of the Islamic Community will carry out organized procurement and ensure Qurbani for humanitarian needs and the needs of educational institutions in our country.

– I responsibly claim that the Qurbani realized under the organization of the Islamic Community are of domestic production. They are procured from the domestic market of Bosnia and Herzegovina, from the territory of both entities and the Brčko District. Those who entrust the Islamic Community with the trust to realize Qurbani on their behalf can be sure that our Qurbani are domestic products. They are realized in domestic slaughterhouse capacities and are carried out by our people, often even by those from whom the Qurbani were purchased – emphasized Memišević.

The Islamic Community has been successfully implementing the "Qurbani" campaign for ten years and stands behind this project with all available capacities and infrastructure, ready to perform the worship of Qurbani sacrifice on behalf of the members of the Islamic Community and Muslims in Bosnia and Herzegovina, taking into account Sharia norms, veterinary and sanitary standards.

– We continue to call and will continue to call on all those who are able to realize their Qurbani within the family circle, because that is best. However, the living conditions, housing spaces and environment in which many Muslims live do not allow the realization of Qurbani in that way. For all those who are unable to do so, the Islamic Community makes its capacities available and takes responsibility for their Qurbani – said Dr. Memišević.

Another significant aspect of social responsibility concerns the distribution of Qurbani meat itself. Along with the one-third to which those who paid for the Qurbani are entitled, the remaining two-thirds are distributed to educational institutions, socially beneficial organizations and individuals on the margins of society.

– All procured quantities of Qurbani from areas that gravitate, for example, to the Gorazde, Tuzla and Mostar Muftiships, areas like Gornje Podrinje and Eastern Herzegovina, remain in those areas. They are distributed to those in need, whether it is organizations that have an organized method of distributing Qurbani meat, or institutions that care for the elderly, frail and helpless throughout the year, delivering them ready, prepared food – said Dr. Memišević.

He illustrated this claim with the example that the "Qurbani" campaign, organized by the Islamic Community, has a continuity of distribution lasting 365 days. The distributed Qurbani meat is used and consumed throughout the year.

– At the moment we are talking about this, somewhere in some center, Qurbani meat from the previous campaign is certainly being consumed. The essence of Qurbani is to shed blood, but what is obtained through this act is equally important. In this way, Qurbani meat remains in use throughout the year – emphasized Dr. Memišević.
