Islamic Community donated as much as 135 tons of meat to the poor in BiH

The Islamic Community of BiH announced that in the past year it distributed about 135 tons of sacrificial meat, which ended up in the homes of poor people, public kitchens, homes for the neglected and children with special needs, and a portion of the meat was also given to medresas and faculties of Islamic sciences in BiH, reports the BiH news agency Patria (NAP).

This is one of the largest quantities of meat the IC has ever distributed, in the campaign of collecting meat from believers which it conducts during the holiday of Eid al-Adha.

The IC launched a major campaign to purchase sacrificial animals from Bosniak returnees in the BiH entity of Republika Srpska, the meat of which, after slaughter, is mostly distributed again to returnees in RS, who are poor, but also to the poor in the Federation, as well as to institutions dealing with socially endangered citizens.

In this way, the IC wants to economically empower Bosniak returnees, who had to leave their homes after the beginning of the Serbian aggression against BiH in 1992.

The largest contribution to the IC's campaign came from the Bosniak diaspora from all over the world. Out of 4,789 sacrificial animals that the IC purchased in 2014 (2,142 sacrificial animals purchased from returnees in RS), Bosniaks from North America alone sent money for as many as 1,665 sacrificial animals, writes Patria.
