Islamic Community condemns shameful campaign against adoption of Srebrenica resolution

(Patria) - The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina condemns the shameful campaign led by political, academic, media, and unfortunately, some religious elites in the Republic of Serbia and parts of Bosnia and Herzegovina against the upcoming adoption of the Resolution in the UN General Assembly, which establishes the "International Day of Reflection and Commemoration of the Genocide in Srebrenica 1995" and pays tribute to the victims of genocide.

The Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina warns the domestic and international public about the disturbing trend of promoting hatred towards survivors of genocide, which is a result of this brutal and well-organized campaign.

Furthermore, the Islamic Community calls on the competent judicial institutions to prosecute those responsible for spreading hate speech and inciting national, racial, and religious hatred, discord, and intolerance.

"The peak of dishonor was shown by the Minister of Security of Bosnia and Herzegovina, who, while appearing on Serbian television with national frequency, mocked the victims of genocide and those who survived it," announced the Office of the Rais al-ulama of the Islamic Community in BiH.

The statement emphasizes that the unilateral changing of street names in Srebrenica, the annulment of the political will of Bosniaks in this city, as well as announcements of political and other gatherings in the city where genocide was committed with the aim of intimidating returnees, will not prevent the adoption of the resolution, nor the truth about the genocide established in international courts.

"Such actions will only deepen divisions in society, prevent the building of trust, and further distance those who have embarked on this path from the true values of the civilized world. The resolution that will be adopted tomorrow in the General Assembly is the best opportunity for the elites in Serbia, and especially for those who were not part of the genocidal project, to save the dignity of their people, condemn the genocide, distance themselves from that project, and face the past so that we can all turn towards a future where there will be no place for those who mock the victims of genocide, nor for those who again spread hatred towards survivors because they want to remember their murdered," stated the Office of the Rais al-ulama.
