The Islamic Community and the Municipality of Vogošća have pooled their financial resources to build three houses by the summer of this year for families who lost their homes during the landslides in May last year in the village of Svrake, reports the Bosnian news agency Patria.
The Islamic Community and the Municipality each allocated 150,000 KM. The Municipality provided land in Hotonj, the necessary permits, and ensured supervision. The works should be completed by the summer of this year.
From the Rijaset of the Islamic Community, they stated that in this way they once again show care and attention towards the victims, as well as readiness to cooperate in jointly solving the problems of the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
During the unprecedented floods and landslides that hit a large part of Bosnia and Herzegovina in May 2014, more than 140 landslides, cracks, and slips were triggered in Vogošća. Twenty-three houses were destroyed or damaged. Dozens of people were evacuated from their homes. The worst was in Svrake, where a landslide completely wiped out several houses from the ground, and many residential and auxiliary buildings were damaged or threatened.
The municipal authorities temporarily housed 72 people in the newly built Rosulje settlement. Local authorities are now making additional efforts to permanently resolve the housing issue for families whose houses were damaged in the landslides, writes NAP.
