Išerić: Why the Srebrenica Resolution is significant for Bosnia, but also for Palestine where genocide is currently being committed!

(Patria) - Today, the United Nations General Assembly will adopt the Resolution on the genocide in Srebrenica. This is significant for Bosnia and Herzegovina and for Bosniaks, says Enver Išerić, a legal expert.

"This resolution will contribute to the study of genocide in schools and universities around the world, thus forever rescuing that committed international crime from oblivion. In point 5 of the Resolution, the General Assembly calls upon all states to fully comply with their obligations under the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

And the obligations under the Convention are also defined by Article 1, which stipulates:

“The Contracting Parties confirm that genocide, whether committed in time of peace or in time of war, is a crime under international law which they undertake to prevent and to punish.”

That is why this Resolution is very significant for Bosnia and for Palestine, where genocide is currently being committed.

All states should respond to this call by the General Assembly to all states to prevent and punish the crime of genocide.

I hope that today at the General Assembly, within the framework of the theme “Culture of Peace,” at least someone from the delegation of our country will call for stopping the genocide in Gaza and for the admission of Palestine to membership in the United Nations. That is our greatest obligation today.

And, in the coming period, we should analyze and consider how states, including Bosnia and Herzegovina, will fulfill their obligations under the convention, as called for in the Resolution, and punish the genocide that occurred in Srebrenica. Perhaps this part of the Resolution is what Vučić and Dodik fear most, which is why they have frantically lobbied against the adoption of this Resolution," Išerić points out.
