Išerić: Federal and Cantonal Governments are Killing Our Citizens Through Inaction

(Patria) - Is the current government in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina healing or killing our citizens, asks legal expert and member of the People's European Alliance (NES) BiH Enver Išerić.

Išerić reminds that the Constitution of the FBiH, specifically Article 2.2, stipulates that "The Federation shall ensure the application of the highest level of internationally recognized rights and freedoms established in the documents listed in the Annex to this Constitution".

And one of those rights is, Išerić further states, the right to healthcare, which is listed under point "o".

Article 2 of the Law on Healthcare in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina also stipulates: "Healthcare, within the meaning of this law, encompasses a system of social, group, and individual measures, services, and activities for preserving and improving health, preventing diseases, early detection of diseases, timely treatment, as well as healthcare and rehabilitation, and the application of health technologies."

- If we consider the state of the healthcare system and the fact that 1,700 people are on "some" waiting lists for therapies and healthcare services, it is simple to conclude that the government, by violating the Constitution and the law, is endangering the health and lives of our citizens - says Išerić in an interview with Patria.

He emphasizes that timely examinations and treatment cannot wait, and that this can only have fatal consequences.

- Instead of allocating the necessary 70 million KM for the treatment of the most seriously ill patients, the Federal Government allocated only 10 million through the Budget Rebalance. And the budget was increased by 230 million through the Rebalance.

If we add to this that the Health Insurance Fund of Sarajevo Canton has 130 million, and that patients wait for months for therapies and examinations due to a lack of necessary equipment, then the situation can be described as catastrophic.

In Tuzla too, as reported by the media, the Fund operates with a surplus, while citizens collect funds for the procurement of equipment for the most seriously ill patients, i.e., cancer patients.

Therefore, the federal and cantonal governments should stop killing our citizens through their inaction, by ensuring timely and quality healthcare for our citizens - Išerić stated.
